The 15th Arts and Business Awards ceremony was held by the Ministry of Culture on January 25. A total of 151 contribution awards and 19 special awards were given this year. Taiwan Fu Hsing Culture & Education Foundation won one contribution award for the third consecutive time (Bronze Award at the 13th and the 14th award ceremonies and Silver Award this year) and one special award—Enterprise Contribution Award. It is indeed rare for a company in traditional manufacturing industries to receive such a recognition.

The Arts and Business Awards is Taiwan’s national award organized by the Ministry of Culture. The purpose of this biennial award is to encourage private enterprises to support and engage in Taiwan’s arts and culture industries in diverse and creative ways. With the full support from Taiwan Fu Hsing, Taiwan Fu Hsing Culture & Education Foundation continues to sponsor local groups of arts and culture in all kinds of ways since its establishment. For example, we held events such as “Art for Kids without the Urban-Rural Gap” and charity family concerts. By doing so, the Foundation makes a better life possible in Kaohsiung by bringing an abundance of artistic and cultural energy to the city.

In the meantime, for the purpose of nurturing employees’ artistic thinking and energizing the enterprise with creativity, the Foundation also devised the “Arts and Culture Rooted Program for Employees” to encourage our colleagues to participate in arts and culture activities. For example, we offered free arts and culture tickets or reserved entire events exclusively for our employees. Besides, we set out our campaign of “Lose Weight, Send Love” to donate books to Weiwuying. We also joined forces with the local independent bookstore to offer book vouchers to our employees. As our Chief Executive Officer Lin I-Cheng said in her award speech, “Our hope is to be a company that lasts one hundred years and the key to achieve this goal is corporate culture. That’s why, over the years, we have guided our colleagues to embark on all kinds of arts and culture activities to boost their abundant flows of creative energy.”

Noteworthily, this is the third consecutive time that Taiwan Fu Hsing won the special award, “Enterprise Contribution Award.” This award aims to recognize a company that has actively promoted its employees’ participation in arts and culture activities, resulting in excellence of elevating Taiwan’s citizens' involvement. Only two or three companies among all award applicants would be awarded every two years. The reason for the Awards jury’s decision was that “[Taiwan Fu Hsing] takes their employees as an epicenter that vibrates to gradually bring people together to participate in the activities of local arts and culture. Taking the enterprise as a starting point, the company set out to drive the sustainable development of local arts and culture industries and draw talents back to the community.” This is precisely the original goal of the Foundation. Our aim is to create a new model of arts and business partnerships that an enterprise, rather than only being a companion and sponsor, can further promote a positive circuit of sustainability for Taiwan’s arts and culture industries.

This year is Taiwan Fu Hsing’s sixty-fifth anniversary since the company started. In the past, we have become one of the best companies in the world with our solid research and development capacity in door locks. In the future, we will actively make contributions to both Taiwan’s economic growth and culture. We hope that Taiwan will have not only a strong economy but also an influential culture to bravely assert itself on the international stage.
